… Extraordinary Failure

I’m really into Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. And just because S1 E5 is all about failure, clearly this show is not.

Zoey’s so-called failure is about her brother and sister-in-laws dilemma. When David and Emily sing a duet “Just Give Me A Reason” by Pink, Zoey confides in Mo about it. It escalates when Zoey runs into her brother at a game room restaurant secretly lying to his wife Emily.

On the work front, Zoey and Joan have an anonymous work peer review which leads to Leif having a meltdown. Leif has never had a negative feedback against him. He then wallows alone and is hurt. And when he sings his “heart song” “Everybody Hurts Sometimes” it’s very emotional. Leif, however, has an emotional performance that is very admirable.

Zoey realized that even when she had failed, her failure helped her to stay humble and overcome how she failed in the first place. Her brother stays away from Zoey and Max, on the other hand, breaks up with Autumn and calls Zoey to tell her about it. But when Zoey receives Max’s call, Simon shows up at her door because he needed to talk to someone about his dads’ death anniversary. She gives him a decent pep talk (she thinks it’s the worst pep talk ever, but he thinks it was actually good). Then just when Simon begins to leave, he sings her “Should I stay or should I go?” Then as he heads to the door, Zoey stops him and the show ends.. giving its audiences another reason to look forward to the upcoming next episode.
