Tagalog movie
Gerald Anderson and Julie Barretto
Getting back to my filipino Tagalog movies: I chose “Between Maybes” thinking it might be like “Definitely Maybe” with Ryan Reynolds and Isla Fisher. Hmm.. nope.
First 20 mins. wasn’t all that great. Actually the first minute wasn’t all that bad because I enjoyed the filipino rappers… until it got to the girl (Julie Barretto) and got stopped, interrupted by her parents. It sucked after that because I was hoping to hear/see her rap. She was dressed the part. She had great style of a singer/rapper, then boom… slapped in the face with nothing. And then, the next coming minutes of finding out that she’s a celebrity… no, a snobbish girl who disrespects her parents… ew. I didn’t want to watch more of this movie… but… I wanted to see what Gerald would play in this movie. So I continued on. Only to be disappointed again.
Ok. So it gets interesting when she takes off on her own to Japan. And in Japan, she meets Gerald. He worked at a Japanese/ Sushi/ Fresh Fish restaurant. She treats him so rudely and continues to be snobbish. She’s a good actress to pull that part but, too young to be partnered with Gerald. Well… fast forward… Julie (I don’t even remember her movie name) and Gerald (didn’t catch me to slightly remember his movie name either), stay connected somehow because she doesn’t want to be alone… blah blah… he feels alone yet courteous enough to go with following up with her to make sure she’s ok (being that she’s an outsider snob).
Fast forward. Not worth watching again. Sorry. In the end, he follows her to Philippines (where she’s still famous again) and tells her he likes her… and another bomb… she says no. She doesn’t want to ruin her career or something about being famous and dragging him along with her. I watched it. Didn’t quite like it. Sorry. For me to say I didn’t like it, is quite sad. But let me just say, a great movie, leaves you with a certain feeling (doesn’t have to be all good, because some sad movies are memorable). But in order to be a good movie even, it leaves the audience remembering the star leads names. Sorry I can’t slightly even recall Julie’s movie name or Gerald’s movie name. Good acting, but plot was bad.
