Zoey’s Extraordinary is still quite the edge-of-your-seat drama/romance. It’s difficult for me to word it other than extraordinary because it really is. S1 E9 Silence brings a whole meaning of being silent. I was excited to see them showcase a whole number on people who know sign language.
Apart from the topic of sign language, I was very interested in learning how to sign, at a certain point in my life. Unfortunately, I’ve only taught myself a few basic hand gestures and decision making movements that I’m not so proud of. I know there’s still time, and perhaps someday I can deem myself worthy of saying that I do know a little sign language. As for now, little minor sign language is ok. I guess.
Well, back to Zoey… this introduces Howie’s (Zoey’s dad’s caregiver) daughter, who is deaf. So Howie uses Zoey’s title as a managerial coder to his daughter, who is majoring in Computer Science, to connect with her. At the deaf dorm, they meet & then Howie’s daughter does a heart song, which is instrumentally fantastic done in sign language: Fight Song. Emotionally executed. Well done.
And Max being moved up to the sixth floor? A flattering promotion given by Ava Price after the duo duet of “The Chirp” presentation slightly moves Max away from Zoey (after she tells him how she feels about him moving up). He still feels hurt and it shows when he asks Zoey what does she think about his promotion. He accepts the offer.
However, at the end, Simon and Vanessa sing a duet and dance; seems hurtfully and separatingly with so much emotion. In question, what did Zoey just witness in heart song? And, what is she going to do about it? Till next episode… in 2 weeks… because of Easter, the next one is going to be worth the wait.
